The rainbow flag has become one of the most easily recognized symbols for the gay comundidad gay pride. The multicultural symbolism of the rainbow is nothing new. The rainbow also plays an important role in many myths and stories related to gender and sexuality in cultures such as Greek, African, American Indian and many others.
The next year Baker approached a company to mass produce rainbow flags for the parade of 1979.
